Jo-Ann Gilbanks Cordes has had an avid interest in art all her life. While working for Pan American World Airlines, she traveled extensively and visited many of the great art museums in the USA and in Europe. Among the American artists she most admires are John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, and Richard Diebenkorn.
Jo-Ann has taken classes at Silvermine Art School, the Wooster School and photography classes from Harold Feinstein in NYC. In 1984 she won first place in Pan American's International Photography Contest depicting the accelerated transition of night to day in world travel.
She taught at Wilton High School for 24 years. She has a Masters Degree in Bilingual Instruction and a second Masters Degree in Curriculum Design.
Jo-Ann says that art has always been an essential part of her life and continues to be integral to how she relates to the world around her. She has exhibited in juried shows at the Mark Twain Library and the Rowayton Arts Center.
Her current work employs acrylic and mixed media: acrylic, watercolor, ink, colored pencil, paper, and oil pastel.
